Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is one of the most compelling examples of the body’s ability to self-regulate and return itself to balance. It is a non-invasive procedure, involving electrodes places to specific sites on the surface of the head, and aids the body in correcting abnormal brain waves caused from injury to the brain. These brain injuries, which are surprisingly easy to acquire, manifest in a variety of ways, including anxiety, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, clinical depression, OCD, migraines and cluster headaches, impaired concentration and memory, disturbed sleep cycles, and poor speech and motor skills.
Your brain waves are assessed, and if an injury is present, weekly “training” sessions are scheduled to correct the abnormal brain waves. During these sessions, electrodes are connected to the appropriate sites on your head, which produce a real-time EEG on a computer screen. The computer assists the brain in recognizing normal rhythmic patterns by producing audio and visual reinforcement when they occur, and the brain makes the appropriate corrections. Nothing is being “sent” to your brain, or put inside your body; your body naturally desires balance, and this is an incredible tool for your brain to bring itself back into balanced, healthy patterns.
